A trip to the makeup counter can end up costing a woman hundreds of dollars, but one makeup artist says you can keep an updated look in tough economic times, CBS station KCNC-TV reports.
Candace Gusman wants her makeup to stay current without spending
Marcus says if you want to save money, the keys are using fewer steps in your daily routine and using a little bit of color.
First, instead of using liquid foundation, switch to powder.
"It will even out skin tone without having too many steps," he said.
Instead of using lipstick and lip liner which could cost you $50, Marcus says just use a highly-pigmented lip gloss which might only cost you $15 to $30.
"A beautiful, bright pop of color without having to do six different steps," he said.
On the eyes, start with a cake eyeliner using a flat brush along the lash line.
"It's a great way to add in one simple step to your look and take it to that next level," he adds.
That might cost about $20 and then Marcus says you can save even more by using less on the lid.
"One color, just washed on the eyelid," he suggests.
Then complete the look with some concealer.
Gusman says she's done throwing away money at the cosmetics counter and now she's ready to try a new routine with fewer steps and less money out of her pocket.
"I think with the economy women are picking and choosing what's important, we're not spending a lot of money," she said.
