Second-Hand Shop Helps Fight HIV AIDS
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
It looks like a thrift store, it smells like a thrift store and it's priced like a thrift store. So, what makes
Philly Aids Thrift different from other second-hand shops?
It's mission.
"We are a non-profit store whose mission is to help folks with HIV and AIDS," said Volunteer Coordinator Christina Kallas-Saritsoglou.
Now celebrating its third anniversary, the non-profit thrift store has donated over one-hundred thousand dollars in cash contributions to local AIDS organizations.
According to Saritsoglou, giving back comes in many forms... from donors and shoppers to the store's volunteers.
"They give of their time so generously and they're just really wonderful people," explained Saritsoglou.
With two floors of merchandise, shoppers can expect to find lots of odds and ends in addition to more conventional items.
"We have clothing, books, furniture, housewares. You name it and we probably have it. We have everything."
To celebrate its 3-year anniversary, the store will offer additional discounts, in-store raffles and free HIV testing this weekend. For more on the festivities and a list of store hours,
