Embezzlement Charge For Ex-construction Official

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) ― Atlantic County prosecutors say a former municipal construction code official embezzled nearly $12,000 in permit fees over several years.

Lisa Hare faces up to 10 years in prison if she's convicted of official misconduct.

The 41-year-old Hare allegedly took money on several occasions between April 2004 and February 2007 while serving as an assistant construction code official in Hamilton Township. Prosecutors say she kept payments for building permits instead of depositing the funds in township bank accounts.

Hare left the job in 2007, and the financial irregularities were reported to township police earlier this year. She turned herself in to authorities on Friday.
