Priest Charged With Stealing Church Money
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) ―
A parish priest with a gambling problem has been charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from church accounts.
District Attorney Janet DiFiore said Patrick Dunne was arrested and arraigned Friday on a charge of grand larceny. Dunne's attorney hasn't returned a call seeking comment.
The Archdiocese of New York announced in March that Dunne took church money because of a "very powerful" gambling addiction. He was pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows in White Plains.
The thefts occurred between 2002 and 2007 and involved the church building fund, the regular Sunday collection and a relief fund for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
