Attorneys Say Gambino Crime Family Heir Earned 3.5 GPA in College Courses

 CBS News Interactive: Mobster Madness

NEW YORK (AP) ― John "Junior" Gotti achieved a 3.5 grade point average while taking college classes behind bars.

Gotti's attorneys cited his good grades in court papers. They're trying to get him out on bail while he awaits a September racketeering retrial in Manhattan.

The attorneys say the Gambino crime family heir excelled in courses from Kaplan's College for Professional Studies. At the time, he was at the Ray Brook federal prison in upstate New York.

It's not known what courses he took.
