Chances are you've heard of scalping tickets to a sporting event or a concert. But have you ever heard of people scalping dinner reservations? It's happening to reservations at one of the Bay Area's most exclusive eateries.
The French Laundry in Yountville is known for its hefty price tag and two-month waiting list. Enter Craigslist, where as of Monday, $100 will buy you someone else's reservation on July 17th. For $300 you can even get reservations for the 4th of July. But it doesn't include the price of dinner.
CBS station KPIX-TV in San Francisco talked to the people at French Laundry, who say the do not condone reservation scalping and are trying to figure out which reservations are listed on Craigslist, in order to cancel them. They say the practice is not fair to the people who go through the proper reservation channels and wait two months to get in.
