Chick-fil-A Fans Camp Out For Free Food

MARLTON (CBS 3) ― The intoxicating dream of free chicken for a year drew dozens of poultry fanatics to the grand opening of a Chick-fil-A in Burlington County early Thursday morning.

Nearly 140 Chick-fanatics camped outside the newest Chick-fil-A location along Route 73 in Marlton prior to its grand opening at 6 a.m.

As is tradition with the nation's second largest chicken restaurant, the first 100 customers in line are given free food for a year. The event, which started in 2003, brings out fans from all over the country.

First in line for Thursday's giveaway were a retired couple from Virginia who have apparently attended 16 Chick-fil-A grand openings as well as a man who has enjoyed 21 of the events and is planning to get his doctorate Friday, according to a restaurant spokesperson.

Since the inception of the promotion, Chick-fil-A said they have given away $7 million in free food.
