Thief Uses Horrible British Accent As Disguise
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS) ―
The FBI is on the hunt for a bank robber who's not trying to disguise his look. Instead, he's trying to hide his voice.
Images of the 'Bogus Brit' are crystal clear, and his accent is absolutely 'ghastly.' The suspect stands in line at the bank and walks up to the counter demanding cash with a laughably bad British accent, according to authorities.
"And we've all heard them. They're easily recognized and his fits that description," says FBI agent Steve Dupree.
FBI agents refuse to try a British accent, but people outside the Arena Boulevard Bank he robbed are more than happy to.
"Cheerio, her how you doing guy, bloody," says one customer.
But, the suspect was the one saying Cheerio after pocketing the cash.
So, while the teller was calling the police, the suspect was spotted in the parking lot with a dark backpack walking off.
But, there's no better place to find the real deal. The actual Brits are used to suffering through our bad impressions all the time.
When CBS13 reporter Mike Dello Stritto asked a British woman if she was proud that the suspect pretended to be British or if she was embarrassed she responded with, "Well it's pretty embarrassing."
The real embarrassment will come when the bandit is behind bars. The FBI would fancy finding him with the public's help.
