A brazen robbery at a Placentia, Calif., convenience store was caught on tape as a masked used a dolly to wheel out a cash ATM around 4 a.m Wednesday, reports CBS station KCBS-TV in Los Angeles.
A surveillance camera aimed at the door and front counter showed a man dressed in black enter the store with the dolly, appear to threaten the store clerk, and proceed to move out of view. Moments later, the man is seen rolling the machine out the door and away from view. There were no surveillance cameras in the parking lot.
Police are looking for a suspect who is about 6-foot, 5-inches, with blue eyes. The man's face was fully covered by a paintball protection helmet, preventing further description.
No weapon was displayed, and no injuries were reported. The robber appears to have simply cut wires behind the machine and wheel it away. From start to finish, the crime took 2 1/2 minutes.
Police are not excluding the possibility the incident was an inside job involving the night clerk, said Placetia police department spokeswoman Corrine Loomis.
"Anything is possible at this point," she said.
The robber, who was wearing a paintball protection helmet, wheeled the machine out of the store on a dolly after ordering the clerk to stay behind the counter, police said.
The machine had been fully loaded with cash to a total of $40,000 just hours before the robbery occurred.
