Chemical Spill Closes Allegheny Avenue

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― A truck leaking a corrosive chemical in the city's Port Richmond section closed the I-95 on and off-ramps at Allegheny Avenue.

The spill happened along Allegheny Avenue under the Interstate 95 overpass prompting closure of the roadway and exit ramps.

Authorities said the chemical is sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide is a corrosive chemical also know as lye, caustic soda and sodium hydrate.

Authorities said the roadway will remain closed while hazmat crews work to clear the scene.
