Judge Reduces Bail For Driver In Upper Darby Crash

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS 3) ― Eyewitness News has learned a judge has reduced bail for a woman who allegedly struck and injured three boys in Upper Darby last week.

During a preliminary hearing Monday, a judge reduced Dawn Denise Snell's bail from 1 million cash to $100,000.

According to Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood, Snell, 42, was rushing her daughter to a train station when she swerved into a group of boys on their way home from school Tuesday, November 24.

"She was in a hurry, the defendant, to get her daughter to the train station at 69th and Market so the daughter could get the train to Norristown for some type of legal proceeding," Chitwood said.

The boys were struck as they crossed the intersection of Hampden and Marshall Roads in Upper Darby. Chitwood says Snell kept driving and hit another vehicle before stopping.

Two of the victims, a 12-year-old and 13-year-old, remain hospitalized in critical condition. The third victim, a 12-year-old, was released from the hospital Saturday.

"Obviously it was reckless and certainly she tried to get away, it was felonious," Chitwood said.

Snell's daughter, who did not want to be identified, said she believes something was wrong with the car.

"I was looking down and when I got up, she lost control of the car. She could not stop. She was screaming trying to stop."

Snell, of Lansdowne, is being held in Delaware County jail.

The incident remains under police investigation.
