Region Making Preps For Tropical Storm Hanna

PHILADELPHIA (CBS3/AP) ― Officials and residents in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania are making preparations for a possible soaking as Tropical Storm Hanna is set to move into the region on Saturday.

The National Weather Service says there is the potential that Hanna could produce heavy rain, strong winds and powerful thunderstorms.

Portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware are under a Tropical Storm Warning and Flood Watch.

Hanna is expected to impact the entire region between early Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening. Between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., the heaviest rain and winds will strike the region.

Philadelphia and its suburbs are expected to receive between 3-6 inches and winds between 25-35 mph.

Philadelphia officials said they would activate the city's emergency operations center late Saturday morning to monitor the storm and coordinate delivery of any needed services.

Atlantic City is not taking any chances as 40,000 residents live there year round and over 170,000 can be enjoying the beach, boardwalk or many casinos on any given day.

Officials in Atlantic City advised all construction sites to secure cranes and equipment and the beach patrol is warning swimmers to stay in waste deep waters as strong rip currents pose a major threat.

While no evacuations are planned in Atlantic City, officials said transportation is in place and all those in the area should be aware of the latest weather information.

Shore areas can expect to see winds between 39-55 mph with heavy downpours and minor beach erosion.
