How many times have your
kids gotten a toy from Santa that they played with a few times and then left it
in a corner to gather dust? Let's face it, kids are fickle and even Santa's
elves have trouble figuring what they like. But not 3-On Your Side's Jim Donovan!
His our toy testers tested
hundreds of toys for over a month. Day after day, it was hard work. But it was
worth it. Today he reported on what toys boys liked most.
At KinderCare in Boothwyn
and Panda Care in Northeast Philly toy testing came easy. It was clear which
toys were a hit with these boys from the very start. The Hot Wheels T-Rex
Rampage was rated "T-riffic". Designed for ages 4 through 8 this play set
includes a chomping dinosaur with sound effects, collapsible buildings and a
bridge that can be built and destroyed, again and again. KinderCare instructor
Stephanie Bixby says "I hear that dinosaur roaring in my head all day long,"
adding that the children, "Make a whole story out of it they'll play with it,
they have sound effects, they have cars that go with it, they love it." The Hot
Wheels T-Rex Rampage Playset from Mattel retails for $40.
Fresh off the robot
assembly line, the RS Tri-Bot is more than just your average robot. Panda Care
instructor Elisha Burke says, "It's got like three wheels on it like a tripod
thing, it goes in any direction, there's a bunch of buttons that comes with the
remote." You can give the Tri-Bot commands and play built-in games. The robot
tells jokes and according to Burke, "It tells you right before it dies it says,
"out of electricity"! The RS Tri-Bot from Wowwee sells for $99.
Not even NASA has a shuttle
that's this much of a blast. The Mega Rig Shuttle Mission starts as a gigantic
spaceship and then becomes 30 separate space vehicles you can combine any way
you like. KinderCare instructor Steven Prescott says, "They love that they're
able to detach certain parts connected to different things. They all intertwine
one way or the other." The Matchbox Mega Rig Shuttle Mission from Matchbox
sells for $45.
If your boys watch TV they
undoubtedly know about Bakugans. The animated series has spawned a strategic
game where magnetic marbles pop open on metal cards and transform into warrior
mode. You can play using the game board or just use the floor. It's just that
adults really don't understand it. Even KinderCare instructor Anne Byrne doesn't
quite get it. She says, "Just from me observing and sitting down with them, i
don't really grasp the concept." But the kids do! Made by Spin Master, the
Bakugan game board is called the Battle Arena and sells for $30. A starter pack
with 3 Bakugans and 3 cards is priced at $13.
Finally, a great stocking
stuffer would be the Nerf
Payton Manning
Rocket Pass
from Hasbro. You can't go wrong with boys and football. It retails for $15.
In addition to those top
toys, others received an honorable mention from the boys. They include the Road
Ripper Turbo Wheelie Dodge Viper from Toy State
and the Invincible Iron Man Action Figure from Hasbro.Related Links:
