St. Patrick's Day Celebration Underway In Phila.
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
It is said everyone is a bit Irish on St. Patrick's Day. Excited revelers rose before the sun to celebrate the Emerald Isle in Northern Liberties.
The doors of Finnegan's Wake at 3rd and Spring Garden opened at 6 a.m. to a sea of green celebrants ready to get their Irish on in Northern
Liberties Monday.
Drinks will be flowing and live music will be blaring throughout the day on all three floors of the Philadelphia bar.
Rachel Guvara of Cape May was first in line for the day's events, arriving at the bar at 5 a.m., but her excitement is not tied to her heritage.
"I'm Italian actually, but who cares, I'm Irish today," she said.
A few non-traditional events are also planned, including bobbing for potatoes, a pit of snakes and an oil wrestling match involving a Leprechaun and two female competitors courtesy of radio personalities Preston and Steve.
Finnegan's Wake owner Mike Driscoll said there will also be family activities, as well as numerous Irish specialties from the kitchen.
"People just love to come out and celebrate St. Patrick's Day," he said.
Philadelphia reportedly began celebrating St. Patrick's Day in 1771.
