Delaware Man Arrested After Shooting, Standoff

CLAYMONT, Del. (AP) ―

New Castle County police say a Claymont man fired a handgun in the direction of three people, including his wife, triggering a standoff with police that lasted several hours.

No one was hurt when 28-year-old Ryan Bernard opened fire on his wife and two of her friends around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say Bernard fired at the trio, then went back in the house and refused to come out.

Police say Bernard didn't respond to police attempts to negotiate with him, and the SWAT Team entered the home around 7:30 a.m. Bernard was in the basement, with the handgun nearby. He was arrested without further incident.

Bernard faces charges of reckless endangering, aggravated menacing, and a weapons offense.
