Students Injured In Delaware School Bus Crash

A bus from the Colonial School District was involved in a serious crash in New Castle County on August 22.

Several injuries were reported after a school bus partially overturned in New Castle County early Friday morning.
Chopper 3 HD was over Route 9 and Hamburg Road where a Colonial School District bus was involved in collision at about 7:15 a.m.
Police said the bus was headed to Gunning Bedford Middle School when a pickup truck pulled out into its path. The two vehicles collided and the bus went through a guard rail before coming to a rest on its side.
Police said 9 people, including 8 students, suffered minor injuries in the incident. All those injured were taken to Christiana Hospital to be treated.
Route 9 was closed in both directions for about three hours while crews cleared the scene.
New Castle County officials have identified the driver of the school bus as Brenda Swierk, 45, and the driver of the truck as Jose Guzman-Diaz, 46.
