Man Arrested After Shooting At Savannah University

Savannah State University Locked Down After Shots Fired

SAVANNAH, Ga. (CBS) ― Authorities say they have caught a gunman suspected of shooting a fellow student at Savannah State University.

Campus Police Chief Thomas Trawick says the wounded student knew the suspect and that the shooting Friday morning happened during a fight between them.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police spokeswoman Judy Pal identifies the suspect as 19-year-old Devon McIntosh. She says a police dog sniffed him out and officers found him hiding in the trunk of a car on campus. The wounded student's name has not been released.

University spokeswoman Loretta Heyward says the shooting happened between 11 a.m. and noon Friday at the historically black college on Savannah's south side.

The campus of 3,400 students along Georgia's coast was locked down but reopened after the gunman was in custody.
