Drivers on one of Montgomery County's business highways should expect delays as a multi-million makeover begins Wednesday.
PennDOT is set to begin work on a 4.5 mile stretch of Route 422 between Route 29 in Collegeville and the Royersford exit.
Crews were expected to begin work on Tuesday, but weather forced a one-day delay.
Officials said during the project crews will resurface the roadway, repair 12 bridges and improve exit conditions. Construction is expected to be completed in July 2010.
Funding for the $12.2 million project was obtained through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Nearly 62,000 vehicles travel on the targeted section of Route 422 every day.
Drivers should be prepared for numerous traffic changes including:
- Eastbound Rt. 422 will be reduced to one lane from 10 a.m. - 5 a.m. the next day for three months
- Westbound traffic will be affected from 7 p.m. until 2 p.m. the next day starting in late August or early September
- Ramps at Route 29 and Royersford will be closed on the weekends
