Pipe Thief Sought In Montgomery County

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) ― Police in Montgomery County are hunting for a man who's been stealing plumbing from the men's bathrooms at fast-food restaurants along the Route 202 corridor.

Police say pipes have been taken from two McDonald's restaurants in East Norriton Township, while one in Upper Gwynedd Township has been hit twice. Burger King restaurants have also been targeted in Whitpain and Montgomery townships.

East Norriton Township detective Jean Morrison says the suspect takes about four minutes to shut off the water, then pull the pipes out of the toilets and urinals.

Authorities say the man's image may have been caught on surveillance video at one site.

Morrison says the piping is chrome-plated brass, and brass is bringing as much if not more than copper at scrap metal yards.
