City Continuing Union Contract Negotiations
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―
Negotiations are expected to continue between the city of Philadelphia and two of
its largest unions.
Contracts with the unions, which represent more
than 12,000 employees, expired about 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, but no immediate work
stoppage is expected.
A statement from District Council 47, which
represents white-collar employees, says both sides have agreed to extend the contract
until July 15 while pursuing a new deal.
District Council 33, which represents
blue-collar workers, only says that it will continue negotiating with the city Tuesday.
Details of the talks are sparse, but key issues are
known to be wages and health care and pension costs.
