New 'Island' Opens At The Philadelphia Zoo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

The Philadelphia Zoo unveiled a new home for its lemurs Thursday.

While catching a ride on Swan Boats, visitors to the zoo will get a glimpse of Lemur Island, the new home of the zoo's black and white-ruffed lemurs.

The new habitat is modeled after the natural home of the lemurs, the island of Madagascar.

"It's exciting to see the lemurs explore to the tops of the trees and the edges of the shoreline," said lemur keeper, Desiree Haneman.

Lemur Island is not only a home for the lemurs, but it is also houses the 'Rainforest Adventure Maze,' featuring educational information on lemurs and the dangers they face in the wild.

The Rainforest Adventure Maze and Lemur Island will remain open until Labor Day.
