DNA Links Person Of Interest To Frankford Assaults

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― CBS 3 has learned DNA taken from a person of interest in a series of sexual assaults in the Frankford section of Philadelphia links the suspect to at least four attacks.

Dorrell Shaw, 26, has been linked to four of the attacks and police say they are reviewing evidence that could link him to two other attacks.

"With this DNA link, we have new information obviously that has led us to consider charges through the D.A.'s office in four of these cases," Capt. John Darby said.

Shaw, wanted for questioning in the attacks of six women, surrendered to police August 19, after a warrant was issued for his arrest following a probation violation stemming from a prior burglary charge.

While in custody, Shaw voluntarily provided a direct DNA swab.

Police said he closely matched the description provided by the victims targeted by the armed rapist. Five of the attacks happened within the past week, with two assaults occurring on Monday.

Shaw's previous residence in the 5200 block of Marlow Street is within walking distance of several of the attacks.

Investigators said Shaw has been linked to assaults in the 1200 and 1600 blocks of Wakeling Street, the 4700 block of Darrah Street and an assault in the 1600 block of Dyre Street.

Police said the investigation into a June 11 attack of a 16-year-old girl who was raped and robbed at knife-point in the 1100 block of Adams Avenue and an August 18 attack on Frankford Avenue remain active and ongoing.

Officers have been out in force canvassing the neighborhood since the recent rash of assaults.

Shaw remains in police custody and is expected to be formally charged momentarily.
