West Chester Making Good Money Off Meters
WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) ―
A southeastern Pennsylvania borough is getting so much more money from parking meters some officials are questioning the need for a new parking garage.
Parking director Xavius da Silva-Thompson says West Chester collected $300,000 more than expected from parking meters last year. At the same time the use of two parking garages the borough owns dropped significantly, though da Silva-Thompson doesn't yet know exactly how much.
Council parking committee Chairwoman Holly Brown says she now questions the need for a new $17 million, 689-space garage on the site of one of the current parking structures.
Council President Sue Bayne said she continues to hear complaints that there is not enough parking in West Chester. She thinks the new, bigger garage is still a good idea.
