A father apparently shot and killed his autistic teenage son before turning the gun on himself in Northeast Philadelphia Monday morning.
Authorities said 61-year-old Segundo Duque fatally shot his 17-year-old son Fabian while inside a minivan parked on Sanger Street near Loretto Avenue at about 6 a.m.
"Tells his son, 'I love you,' several times and then takes the gun at point blank range, shoots him and kills him," said Philadelphia Police Captain James Clark.
Just moments before the shooting, police said Duque entered an apartment on Orthodox Street and fired a shot at his girlfriend, who escaped unharmed.
Duque returned to the van and drove to a nearby corner where he killed his wheelchair-bound son before killing himself.
Family friend Lou Carrasquillo said neighbors tried to look after the disabled teen.
"He had autism and everybody on the block took care of him. He was like the neighborhood kid," Carrasquillo said.
Investigators said Segundo Duque was apparently enraged after a recent domestic dispute, during which he threatened to kill his family.
