Investigators Still Unable To Enter Del. Refinery
CLAYMONT, Del. (AP) ―
Delaware state fire investigators say they have not yet been able to enter the site of an explosion at Sunoco's Marcus Hook Refinery to search for the cause.
State fire marshal's office Chief Deputy Alan Brown says nearly three weeks after a tank exploded at the refinery that straddles the Delaware-Pennsylvania border, investigators are waiting for contractors to finish removing asbestos from the site.
Brown says fire investigators have been to the perimeter of the scene but no farther.
He says they should be able to get inside in a week but passage of time shouldn't keep investigators from determining the cause of the explosion.
A Sunoco spokesman says company investigators looked inside the unit as cleanup began to make observations and take extensive photographs.
