Suspect In University City Robbery Arrested

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a home invasion and robbery in University City on Monday.

Authorities said a 30-year-old victim was tied up for over 12 hours after being attacked by three suspects at his apartment in the 4300 block of Spruce Street.

An unidentified 25-year-old male was taken into custody by Southwest Detectives in connection with the incident at about 9:00 p.m. Police said the suspect faces charges of robbery, aggravated assault and kidnapping.

The victim told police he walking out of his apartment when he was approached by a suspect with a handgun.

"As he produces this handgun, he puts it at the victim's neck and tells him 'This is a robbery,'" Lt. John Walker said.

Authorities said two additional suspects joined the armed man and the victim's face and arms were duct-taped. He was held for over 12 hours inside the apartment while the suspects obtained his banking information.

"During the course of the night, they were taking his banking information --- both his credit cards, debit cards and MAC cards --- going out and trying to use them at various machines," Lt. Walker said.

The suspects were later seen fleeing the victim's apartment after reportedly stealing credit cards, electronics and other items. The victim was able to free himself and contact police.

Investigators were arrested one of the three suspects at 23rd and Walnut after noticing he had allegedly used one of the victim's credit cards.

"Immediately we had detectives on the street, they were able to apprehend the male as he walking out of a Rite-Aid," Lt. Walker said. "In his possession were various items that were purchased throughout this day, along with identification from the victim of this horrible crime."

Police are searching for the two other suspects in connection with the incident. If you have any information, contact Philadelphia Police.
