Delaware County Hit-Run Victim Laid To Rest

SHARON HILL, Pa. (CBS 3) ― The teenage victim of a hit and run in Delaware county was laid to rest today.

Authorities said Faith Sinclair, 16, was crossing the street near Chester Pike and Laurel Road in Sharon Hill when she was struck by a vehicle at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday evening.

Sinclair, an honor student at Ridley High School, was walking with friends at the time of the accident.

The owner of a car seized by Delaware County authorities in connection to a fatal hit and run is being called a person of interest in the crime.
Investigators said they would "love" to talk to Lemuel Payne of Upper Darby.

On Wednesday, investigators seized a 2000 black Mercedes from a home in the 300 block of State Road in Upper Darby. Investigators said several tip calls led them to the home.

Investigators said the car is registered to Payne, who lives at the residence where the car was found.

"We went to a residence in Upper Darby, found a vehicle matching the vehicle which we were interested in at that location," Chief Robert Tinsley said.

Investigators, armed with a warrant, opened the garage and found the Mercedes with missing parts; a grill and a side-view mirror.

"It also had damage consistent with the damage that we were looking from that type of accident," Chief Tinsley said.

Neighbors said they noticed newly tinted windows on the garage where the car was located.

Witnesses said the teen was hit by a dark-colored car, possibly a Mercedes or BMW that was traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver failed to stop after the crash and fled the scene.

According to police, several witnesses said they saw a passenger get out of the car following the accident.

"The longer they stay and don't come forward, you might say the larger the shadow of doubt is cast upon them," Chief Tinsley said.

No charges have yet been filed. The incident remains under investigation.

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in connection with the deadly hit and run.
