Celebrate The Holiday Weekend Philly-Style
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
A few overcast skies can't cloud Philadelphia's massive celebration of the Nation's birthday this Fourth of July.
As part of Sunoco's Welcome America Festival, over 20 free events in honor of the holiday are underway, culminating with a fireworks extravaganza on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
Prior to the explosive display, Philadelphians and guests will be treated to a performance from singer John Legend.
Admission to Independence Hall will be free throughout the weekend, but those who head to the visitors center Friday will have a chance to get a piece of a special birthday cake provided by Tastykake (while supplies last).
If your sweet tooth has not been satiated, you can head over to Penn's Landing for and all-you-can-eat ice cream extravaganza with favorites Ben & Jerry, Haagen Dazs, Jack & Jill and more from noon until 6 p.m.
For something a little bit different, you can take a look at a sculpture of the signing of the Declaration of Independence made entirely of cheese at the Bourse near 5th and Market Streets.
But it wouldn't be the Fourth without a parade. The Southwest Airlines July 4th Parade marches down the Parkway starting at 6 p.m. followed by a free concert headlined by five-time Grammy winner John Legend.
