Massive Fire Damages Wildwood Attraction
WILDWOOD (CBS 3) ―
Over 200 firefighters were called to a popular Jersey shore attraction for a massive fire early Monday
morning.
Officials said flames broke out at Mariner's Landing at Morey's Piers on the
Wildwood boardwalk just before 1:30 a.m.
Approximately 11 fire departments were called to the scene to fight the huge
blaze. The fire was said to be under control at about 4 a.m.
Witnesses reported seeing several small explosions during the fire.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries during the incident and were taken to
an area hospital to be treated.
The fire was mainly contained to the north side of the pier. Morey's Pier
officials said two rides, Super Scooters and the Seal Flume, were damaged in
the blaze.
"Two of our rides were damaged, one destroyed, the Super
Scooters" said Angel Daniels of Morey's Piers.
Some office and storage space also sustained some smoke
damage. Officials said rides on all three piers opened as scheduled Monday.
Investigators believe the fire began on the beach level. The
cause of the fire remains under investigation.
