Young A.C. Fire Victims Reunited With Rescuers

ATLANTIC CITY (CBS 3) ― A group of Atlantic City firefighters were reunited with two young brothers they saved from a devastating hours fire last month.

The last time 8-year-old Abalid Sepulveda and his 9-year-old brother Edwin met a group of local firefighters, their apartment on the 100 block of N. South Carolina Avenue was filled with heavy smoke and flames.

Following their rescue on October 24, both young boys spent eight days at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia with severe smoke inhalation

Captain Craig Johnson said the rescue was the first time in his 22 years where children were involved.

While the flames claimed all of their possessions, the only request the brothers had were two new backpacks and to meet the brave firefighters who saved their lives.

On Friday, the boys' wish was granted in high fashion. Fire engines arrived at the motel where they are staying temporarily, bringing clothes for school and the experience of a lifetime.

The Atlantic City Fire Department also came to the family's rescue one more time, bringing nearly $3,000 in donations and gift cards. The boys are also expected to get a special pizza party over the weekend and crew members say they will make sure the family has a happy holiday.

While the family is set to move into a new apartment, officials say they are still in need of furniture and bedding. If you would like to make a donation, please contact the Atlantic City Red Cross at 609-646-8330 or visit www.acredcross.org.
