The mother of a teen killed in a hit and run is speaking out as the suspect accused of running her daughter down had his bail reduced and is about to walk out of prison.
Investigators said accused hit and run driver Lemuel Payne, 26, ran down Faith, leaving her to die in the lanes of Chester Pike on August 3. Payne was arrested on October 23.
Kim said she was stunned by how little Payne seemed to care.
"It was his car, it was his car, and I have a real hard time with the fact that he has no remorse," Kim said.
Even worse for Faith's mother, Payne's attorney succeeded in getting his bail reduced and he will be released from prison on home monitoring to await trial.
The attorney argued there was no risk that Payne would fail to appear at trial.
"We put our faith and trust in the justice system that we thought was working for us and we since realized that's not the case," Kim explained.
As Kim prepares for Payne's trial, she said the upcoming holidays are too painful too even think about.
"She was who I Christmas shopped with, I think I am doing it online this year," Kim said.
Kim will soon be heading to Harrisburg to lobby for tougher laws for hit run suspects who, in some cases, get off easier by leaving the scene.
On Sunday, Faith's family will ride in the Bikers against Child Abuse Toy Run in Delaware County dedicated to Faith's memory.
