Drexel Honors Gov. Bill Richardson
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Skyrocketing gas prices brought New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson to Philadelphia Monday morning. The former democratic presidential candidate was honored by Drexel University's Eastern Technology Council's 'Titans of Technology" series.
With Memorial Day weekend marking the official start of the summer driving season the Governor's speech focused primarily on soaring gas prices and the current energy crisis.
Richardson, who once served as secretary of energy, has been a long time fighter for moving the United States away from its dependence on foreign oil. Richardson will approach those topics from economic, diplomatic and strategic standpoints in a presentation titled "Energy: A Flashpoint for Change."
In addition to the Governor being on hand, Drexel University unveiled public safety hybrid fleet vehicles, a new concept fuel-cell hybrid vehicle and a PECO hybrid bucket truck - symbolizing that universities and companies are making the change to wave-of-the-future vehicles.
As of Monday the average price of self-serve regular gasoline on Friday was $3.79 a gallon. Mid-grade was at $3.91, and premium was $4.02. That's according to the Lundberg Survey of 7,000 stations nationwide released Sunday.
