Delaware Homeowner Subdues Burglar

BEAR, Del. (CBS 3) ― A homeowner in New Castle County subdued an intruder who broke into his home during the early morning hours Thursday.

Police say Brian Gallagher, 22, was arrested and charged with burglary after being caught in the act burglarizing a home in Bear on Thursday.

The male homeowner was awakened to the sound of footsteps in an upstairs area of the home around 3:00 a.m.

When he went to check on his wife and child sleeping in the master bedroom, he found the male suspect crawling around on the floor in the room.

"This guy on my floor, next to my child and wife and I just jumped on him," homeowner Matthew Johnson said.

Johnson punched the suspect and immobilized him until police came.

"I just started hitting on him and then I grabbed him and put him in a headlock and told my wife to call 911," Johnson explained.

Gallagher is being held by New Castle County Police awaiting arraignment. Police say further investigation revealed he is wanted in connection to six other crimes in Kent County.
