Carol Erickson Adds Author To Her Resume

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Carol Erickson, CBS 3/CW Philly meteorologist, animal activist and now accomplished author, recently published her first children's book Not A Used Dog, At All.

Not A Used Dog, At All encourages adoption of shelter dogs and explains the reasons for it in ways a young reader can understand. Complete with an expanded discussion section for parents and educators, the children's book is designed for the 4 to 8 year-old group. The book shares the story through the eyes of a young boy named Matt. He only wants a fluffy pet store puppy, not a 'used' dog from the shelter. When he reluctantly meets a shelter dog, he learns some truths about adopted dogs, store-bought puppies, and the difference a kid can make in the world.

Erickson's book is beautifully illustrated by CBS 3 colleague Jeff McCloskey, an Emmy Award winning graphic designer. Although he has been designing and animating television graphics since 1986, this is his first time illustrating a children's book.

Erickson, mother of a daughter in law school, is an Emmy Award winner herself and one of the market's most versatile television personalities. Active in the community, she is a passionate advocate for family pets and other animals. She often includes "pet advisories" in her weather forecasts, hosts a "pet page" on cbs3.com/pets and reports on other animal related stories.

Along with multiple accreditations from the National Weather Association (NWA) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS), Erickson has earned a diploma in Companion Animal Behavior Counseling – Canine Behavior from the American Institute for Animal Science, now the American College of Applied Science. In 2007 and 2008, she was awarded the Pennsylvania SPCA Media All-Star Award for her stories on animals and for calling attention to the plight of animals.

The Pennsylvania SPCA has endorsed the book, calling it "terrific" and says, "We are lucky to have such an outstanding spokesperson for animal welfare in the city of Philadelphia."

Not A Used Dog, At All, released this year by AuthorHouse, is available at www.authorhouse.com and other retail outlets such as Amazon.Com and Barnesand Noble.Com. Profits from the book benefit local animal shelters and rescue groups. Erickson resides on a farm in Burlington County, New Jersey with her grown daughter, dogs and horses.

CBS 3 (KYW-TV) and The CW Philly (WPSG-TV) are part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.
