Biden Speaks At Son's Deployment To Iraq

DOVER, Del. (AP) ― Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden bid his son and other members of a Delaware National Guard unit goodbye as they prepare to deploy to Iraq.

Biden told the soldiers outside the state capitol Friday that his heart is "full of love and pride." He says he takes comfort in knowing the 261st Signal Brigade is the "best prepared group of citizen-soldiers" the U.S. has ever sent in harm's way.

Biden added that the unit's members are "the best demonstration of our nation's greatness and our people's goodness."

Biden's son is Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden.

The brigade is headed to Texas for training before heading to Baghdad.

The send-off came the morning after the vice presidential debate, during which Joe Biden spoke emphatically about Barack Obama's "clear plan" to shift responsibility to Iraqis and drawn down the number of U.S. troops.
