Moorestown Crash Kills 1, Injures 4
MOORESTOWN, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
A Burlington County police officer and a Good Samaritan came to the aid of several trapped victims in a burning vehicle following a deadly crash late Sunday night.
Police said the two-car collision was reported on Route 38 near Nixon Drive in Moorestown just after 11:30 p.m.
Authorities said a Mitsubishi, driven by 20-year-old Theodore Williams, was speeding eastbound on Route 38 when it lost control and jumped the median, crossing into the westbound lanes.
The Mitsubishi crashed into a Hyundai making a left turn onto Route 38 before catching fire.
Eyewitness Sal Rose said he pulled over and assisted Moorestown patrolman Peter Parker in rescuing the driver and 18-year-old Ryan Lang from the back seat of the burning vehicle. He said a third person was inside the vehicle, but he could not reach them in time.
"I pulled over to the side. The car was on fire and I could see someone still moving, so I ran over to the car so I could pull the victims out," said Rose.
An 18-year-old in the front seat, identified as James Sharman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Williams was rushed to Cooper University. Williams is reportedly in stable condition.
The driver of the Hyundai, 20-year-old Rickie Crews Jr., and 19-year-old Ashley Garcia were flown to Cooper Trauma. Both Crews and Garcia are in critical condition.
At this time no charges have been filed and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
