Ice + Snow = Treacherous Driving Conditions

Crews are working to clear the icy road ways, but despite that there have been many reports of accidents throughout the region.

Plows were out at the Philadelphia International Airport clearing snow and ice, despite the cancellation of almost half of morning flights.

Ice and snow covered cars and roads in the Lehigh Valley. Commuters were urged to take some extra time before heading out.

A dangerous mix of ice and snow created dangerous conditions on back roads and highways throughout the Delaware Valley on Wednesday.
Road crews have been working around the clock to clear snow and ice from area roadways, but falling snow, sleet and freezing rain is keeping the roads slick.
A winter storm warning remains in effect for the Lehigh Valley, as several inches of snow could continue to fall throughout the morning.
An ice storm warning is in effect along the I-95 corridor as approximately a half inch of ice could cover the region.
PennDOT spokesman Nick Martino said they had every one of their trucks on the roads working to keep traffic moving.
Travel on the roads may have been slowed by the weather, but those looking to take to the skies were met by delays and cancellations at the Philadelphia International Airport.
While runways were staying clear, icy conditions led to the cancellation of approximately 45-percent of all flights until at least 10 a.m Wednesday. Officials said passengers should check on the status of their flight before heading out.
SEPTA officials said service was suspended on the R2 regional rail line due to a downed tree. Trains on the R5 Paoli are running late because of malfunctioning signals. Riders should expected delays on all buses.
PATCO trains are all delayed and officials said there will be no express service.
Extra crews were brought in by PECO as officials expect numerous outages due to the winter weather.
"We have activated our emergency response center, we have extra crews, they are mobilized," said PECO spokesman Cameron Cline
As of 11:30 a.m., PECO was only reporting 300 outages. To report a power outage, call
1-800-841-4141Delmarva Power said over 13,000 people in New Castle County were without power Wednesday morning. In New Jersey, approximately 14,000 outages were reported across eight counties.
