A Delaware County jury found one of two accused killers of a young soccer star guilty Friday.
Will Trippley's family dreamed that he might one day compete in the Olympics, but a burst of gunfire on a Chester street, ended their dreams and his.
Trippley's talent for soccer took him from the streets of Chester to the prestigious Shipley School in Montgomery county.
Instead of watching their son succeed on the soccer field and in the classroom, the Trippleys found themselves sitting in a courtroom. Friday, a jury found 17-year-old Jerminy Dorsey guilty of third-degree murder.
The rising star and captain of his school's soccer team was fatally shot in the head while walking near his Chester home in the spring of 2004. Police said the bullet was not originally intended for him.
"I was hoping one day maybe I would see him on T.V. playing in the in the Olympics, that's how good he was," said Trippley's father, Bill Trippley Jr.
Unfortunately justice will not come easy because CBS 3's Walt Hunter reports many witnesses have changed or backed out of their stories due to fear.
Police said a second accused killer in Trippley's murder, Michael Crops, remains at large.
"Be a man, stand up to your obligations, and turn yourself in," said Trippley's mother. "My son is done, we don't get a chance to have grandchildren, we don't get a chance to go to my son's wedding."
