Man Arrested In Del. Wawa Parking Lot Hit-Run
CLAYMONT, Del. (CBS 3) ―
A suspect has been arrested in connection to a hit and run in the parking lot of a Delaware convenience store Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened at about 12:05 p.m. in the parking lot of a Wawa on Philadelphia Pike in Claymont.
Investigators said 22-year-old Zachery Mettler, of Hockessin, is being held at the Young Correctional Facility.
According to police, Mettler was backing out a parking space and ran over a 75-year-old pedestrian. Police said he fled the scene in a Saab.
Investigators were able to identify Mettler after visiting Saab dealers and learning the names of some recent buyers. A list was then narrowed down by vehicle color and model and investigators came up with Mettler's name.
Investigators then compared a driver's license photo of Mettler to the surveillance video from the Wawa and a positive match was made. Mettler was taken into custody at his home without incident.
Mettler has been charged with Vehicular Assault, Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident and DUI. His bail has been set at $2,501.
The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
