Many are trying to deal with the shock and disbelief of the tragedy that occurred at Virginia Tech on Monday.
Parents and loved ones -- many in the area -- called in to check on their students at the school as soon as they heard reports of the campus rampage.
From her Upper Makefield home, Betsy Utterback was constantly checking the news.
"I just pray for those families, it could have been my daughter, it could have been anyone of our kids," Betsy said.
Her daughter is 20-year-old Jennifer and the Virginia tech junior woke up to her mother's frantic phone call to see if she was okay.
"I was terrified, I didn't know if he was still on the loose," Jennifer said.
As the horrific day unfolded and the death toll continued to rise, Jennifer started thinking of her classmates.
"The next thing I knew there were like 20 deaths, I was like this is unbelievable," Jennifer said, adding, "I didn't know what was going on, I just wanted to know where my friends were."
In the meantime, Jennifer's mom continued to field phone calls from worrying neighbors and friends.
Betsy knew her youngest child wasn't hurt but the possible connection her daughter could have to one of the unidentified victims will not leave her mind.
"You just pray my daughter selfishly doesn't know any of theses kids and I feel so bad for these families, this could be your child," Betsy said.
At last check, Jennifer did not know any of the students that were shot on Monday.
