Upper Darby Police Get The Jump On Home Invasion
UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
Upper Darby Police said they got the jump on a violent drug gang during a sting operation Wednesday.
The gang allegedly planned to invade a home -- robbing and kidnapping its residents -- but they were instead greeted by heavily armed SWAT team members.
Police said a male and female suspect were taken into custody for questioning.
Authorities believe the suspects were involved in a separate home invasion on Ruskin Lane in Upper Darby last Friday. Police said the homeowner was kidnapped and held for hours in a van.
The suspects allegedly told their victim to lure another man to their location so they could rob him as well.
"They told him if he didn't do it they would kill his mother, his family and him," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Mike Chitwood.
Police said the victim instead alerted police, who then set up the sting operation.
The suspects, who have not yet been formally charged, are allegedly part of a violent drug gang in the region.
"These guys are violent, violent predators," Chitwood said.
Officials said one of the suspects had been free on house arrest after a previous drug arrest. The suspect was apparently wearing an ankle bracelet at the time of his arrest.
