Toys R' Us Helps Parents With Autistic Children

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― For a child with Autism, Toys R' Us offers toys with crucial learning tools.

Toys R' US teamed up with Autism Speaks, selecting toys like Play Doh Table, The Little People's Bus and the Medical Doll to help autistic children develop motor, auditory and creative skills that their neurological disorder often strips away.

"We did it because it involved kids and families, and that's what Toys R' Us is all about," said one employee.

"Most kids just do like that, that's not easy for a child with autism. It looks easy it's not easy," said parent Stacey Fliegelman whose 6-year-old son Jason is autistic.

More children are being diagnosed every year. Autism is becoming more prevalent. The stats are alarming, showing one in 150 kids in this country is autistic and one in 94 boys are affected. No one knows why.

"We don't have a cause or a cure. With the stats where they are, it is imperative that we find out," said Stacey Fiegelman.

While the cause and cure eludes medical experts, parents see these toys as a path to healing.
