Search Continues For I-76 Road Rage Shooter
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
A father was critically injured after being shot in front of his young daughter on I-76 Sunday night.
Police were called to the westbound side of I-76 after reports of an accident near the Passyunk Avenue exit at about 8:45 p.m.
But instead of a crash scene, officers discovered a White Toyota Highlander riddled with bullet holes on the side of the highway.
The victim, identified as 41-year-old Thomas Timko of Glendora, New Jersey, was found with a bullet wound to his head and was still conscious when police arrived. Authorities believe the shooting occurred approximately an hour before the victim was found.
The victim's 8-year-old daughter was in the backseat of the car at the time of the incident, but was not injured.
Timko's daughter is being lauded for her fast actions when her father was shot. The young girl got the attention of a passing motorist on the expressway who then contacted the police.
"I am so proud of her. She saved her Daddy's life. She was a big girl. I am so glad she is OK. I hope her Daddy pulls through for her," said the girl's mother.
Timko was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he remains in critical, but stable condition.
Investigators believe the shooting was sparked by road rage.
Early reports state the victim had pulled over to the side of the road with some type of car trouble.
He accidentally pulled in front of another driver when reentering the roadway. Sources said the enraged driver fired at least four rounds into Timko's vehicle, striking him in the head.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information on this incident is urged to call South Detectives at
215-686-3013.
