SEPTA Removing Malt Liquor Ads From Buses

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ― Philadelphia's main transit agency has agreed to remove wraparound ads for malt liquor from buses.

Two buses run by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority had been completely wrapped in ads for Colt 45 brand malt liquor. SEPTA said it's getting rid of those ads in response to community concerns.

Community activists have long decried the sale of malt liquor. It's similar to regular beer but with an alcohol content as high as eight percent and often sold in 40-ounce bottles.

SEPTA said alcohol advertising has generated almost $600 thousand in the first half of 2007.
