Police: Council Rock Teacher Had Sex With Student

HOLLAND, Pa. (CBS 3) ― A former high school teacher in Bucks County has been arrested for allegedly having sex with one of his students.

Robert Hawkins, a former math teacher at Council Rock South High School, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of a minor.

According to investigators, Hawkins had a five-month sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student who was in his math class.

Sources said the 43-year-old Hawkins and the teen engaged in a sexual relationship numerous times between December and April at his Newtown Township home.

A friend of the teen alerted authorities who then started an investigation into the allegations.

It is also alleged that Hawkins showed the teen a sexually explicit picture of another Council Rock South female student.

Hawkins was initially placed on suspension, but was terminated in May while the case was being investigated.

In addition, the school district said it has accepted the resignation of another teacher who allegedly knew about the reported misconduct prior to the police investigation, but did not come forward to report the information.

Two other teachers have been suspended from their positions and are facing termination after being accused of failing to report the incident to school officials as well.

The school district released a statement that read:

"Council Rock can now sincerely apologize to this student and her family for the actions of this teacher and for the failure of others to report this incident."

Hawkins was released after his father posted 10 percent of his $500,000 bail.
