The Phillies and their fans joined with a Bucks County family to remember a local soldier killed in Iraq.
The ballpark tribute included a ceremonial first pitch Thursday evening, as well as proceeds for a great cause.
Fran Dembowski threw out the first pitch in honor of her son, Robert, who was killed in Iraq close to a year ago.
On Thursday night, Fran was surrounded by close family and nearly 1,000 others who specifically bought tickets to the game as part of a memorial fundraiser in Robert's name.
"I just want him to be here and I know he's here in spirit, as parents, we just want to touch him and hug him and hear his voice," Fran said.
In addition, a video tribute was played on the big screen before the Phillies game against the San Diego Padres.
The money raised will benefit the
Wounded Warriors project and also to a scholarship at Robert's alma mater --- Council Rock High School.
