Professor Officially Resigns After Wife's Death

PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―

The University of Pennsylvania professor who admitted killing his wife during an argument has officially left the school.

Economics professor Rafael Robb resigned from Penn on Tuesday, a day after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of his wife, Ellen.

Penn had placed the 57-year-old professor on leave while the charges were pending. Robb's resignation is effective immediately.

Robb said in court that he killed his wife with a chin-up bar on Dec. 22 after the couple argued over an upcoming trip for their daughter.

Forty-nine-year-old Ellen Robb was also planning to divorce him.

Robb is in custody while awaiting sentencing. He could face 10 to 20 years in prison, though standard sentencing guidelines call for 4 1/2 to 6 years.
