Presidential Candidates To Debate In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―

Philadelphia is set to play host to Campaign '08 when seven democratic candidates debate at Drexel University Tuesday night.

It has been over 30 years since Philadelphia has seen a debate between presidential candidates, but it will be the eighth time the seven leading democratic candidates seeking a shot at the White House have faced off.

After months of preparations, the stage is set at a 742-seat auditorium at Drexel University.

Several accommodations have been made for the incoming candidates, including extending the stage 16-feet and turning administrative offices into green rooms.

During the nationally televised debate, candidates are expected to discuss various topics, including the economy, healthcare and the ongoing war in Iraq.

Early favorite, Senator Hillary Clinton, will join Senators Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Chris Dodd, former Senator John Edwards, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, and Congressman Dennis Kucinich on stage for the debate.

Because of the high profile event, Chestnut Street between 31st and 33rd Streets will be closed from 10 a.m. Tuesday until 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The debate starts at 9 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m.
