Police: Robbers Caught On Upper Darby Roof

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS 3) ― Three suspects from West Philadelphia were captured during a home in Upper Darby early Friday morning.

According to police, a group of would-be thieves were caught on the roof of a home in the 200 block of Windgate Road after breaking in through a window.

The three men, identified as Shyeam Mann, Jeffery Mason and Edwin Clark, reportedly confronted the homeowner around 2 a.m. and attempted to lead him into his own home. The homeowner, pretended to comply, but escaped into a van and drove away.

Police say the three men then broke into the house by kicking out a glass window, prompting neighbors to call the police. According to police, when assistance arrived on the scene, another individual escaped from the home through the front window informing police of the men inside.

Once police secured the area, the suspect gained access to the roof of the home where two were captured by a Delaware state police helicopter. The third suspect escaped through an adjacent home's skylight where he was taken into custody by the swat team.

"These guys were armed and they were ready for war, but they didn't fire any shots at police and police didn't fire any shots at them," Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

The evacuation of homes lasted approximately four hours as Upper Darby police and swat units arrived at the scene and evaluated the situation.

No one was injured during the incident.

Chitwood said several high-powered weapons were recovered from the suspects.

The three suspects are being held at the Upper Darby Police Department headquarters. The suspects are facing 24 charges.
