Pilot Injured In Banner Plane Crash

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) ― A banner plane pilot sustained severe facial injuries when the aircraft crashed near a motel in Cape May County on Saturday night.

Matthew Wolf, 25, of Strasburg, Pa., was flown by medical helicopter to Atlantic City Medical Center, where he was being treated in the trauma unit late Saturday night.

However, authorities said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The plane went down in Middle Township at about 5:30 p.m.  Witnesses said the aircraft appeared to lose power before it dropped its banner, then skimmed a tree and struck a fence before coming to rest in the rear yard of the Catalina Motel.

No one on the ground was hurt, authorities said, but the crash caused major traffic delays in the area.

The crash was being investigated by Middle Township police and the Federal Aviation Administration.
